Jimmy King, WOR-FM to WXLO, New York, October 23, 1972 (02:10:25) | |||
. . . At OR-FM... Oh Sh**! . . . [DESCRIPTION FROM NOTES BY ROB FRANKEL.] Recorded by Joe Persek, this is a little piece of NYC radio history: the morning that WOR-FM became WXLO (10/23/72). It opens with the end of the closing music for an early-morning religious show, over which you'll hear the final play of a WOR-FM Johnny Mann acapella. That is followed by a full WOR-FM newscast by John Bennett, who is featured in all the newscasts heard in this two-hour aircheck. The first station ID for WXLO comes in the form of a Johnny Mann acapella after the first song. And an infamous moment occurs during the backsell for Bill Withers current hit, when morning man Jimmy King accidentally gives the 'OR-FM calls, followed by an audible "Oh, sh**!". And that's just one of several station mis-identifications. Not quite enough to create a new drinking game, but close! The aircheck is in mono, because Joe recorded a lot of his aircheck reels as four separate mono tracks. COMMENTS FOR JIMMY KING, OCTOBER 23, 1972 |
