Playdate: Saturday, February 7, 1970. Your Leeeeeeeeeeeeaduh sets all burners on high and wraps up his eight months at WPOP in Hartford, Connecticut.

Jack Armstrong puts on more than a show - he creates true theater-of-the-ear in this last WPOP broadcast. In Part One, he offers listeners a tour of the station, and ends up taking a bath in the General Manager's office.

Jack Armstrong passed away March 22, 2008 at his home in North Carolina.

In Part Two of Jack Armstrong's February 7, 1970 finale for WPOP Hartford, Armstrong drains his tub and delivers a promised translation of Je T'Aime...Moi Non Plus (a 1969 educational recording.)

The broad selection of music in this hour is more evidence of a time when Top40 Variety, (not diversity) was a big part of a common American culture.

In Part Three of Jack Armstrong's last show on WPOP, Hartford, we are treated to more of this brilliant entertainer and his breakneck off-the-wall quips break after break. This young dude really worked at his radio show, a true legend, featured here with great jingles and classic music.

Could we ask for more? (There's still Part 4!) There's no question that the flawless restoration by Rob Frankel makes this exhibit much more than an "aircheck." This is 69 minutes of great entertainment. The music never sounded as good from scratchy vinyl on narrowband AM radios. It sounds so much better here.

And here's the fourth and final part of his last show on Hartford's WPOP. You'd never guess Jack Armstrong had been at it all night long, because his energy level in the last part of this four part mega-check is as high, or higher, than the previous three.

During this show, The Invisible Man stops by, but Jack can't see him. Did you know that Eddie Holman (Hey There Lonely Girl) was a former oil well driller? Jack passes on his title as Leader of Liverwurst Country and King of Kilbasi Country to morning guys Bill Love and Lou Martin.

PLAYPOINTS Jack's closing comments are vitally interesting to all those who love classic top 40 radio. They begin at 1:11:11 into this exhibit.
