Jack Armstrong KTLK Denver CO September 4, 1970 (RESTORED) - Pt. 1 (01:19:03) | |
. . . for those across the street who can hear me . . . [DESCRIPTION BY UNCLE RICKY] Here's Part One of the always amazing Jack Armstrong on KTLK in Denver, September 4, 1970. Part Two and Three will follow. The jingles were (I think) from Atwood-Richards. Somewhere, I have a demo reel featuring some of the cuts heard on this aircheck. Any thoughts about identifying an AM music station as "Kay-Talk"? Was Armstrong happy at KTLK? I look forward to reading his story, he's reportedly working on it from his home in Greensboro, N.C. (as of December 2006.) Jack Armstrong is a champion of working Top-40 jocks all over America - he's worked just about everywhere. Our best to Jack in 2007! Jack Armstrong passed away March 22, 2008 at his home in North Carolina. [PRODUCTION AND MUSIC RESTORATION BY ROB FRANKEL] COMMENTS FOR PART ONE, JACK ARMSTRONG KTLK DENVER SEPTEMBER 4, 1970 |

. . . moving targets are harder to hit . . . [DESCRIPTION BY UNCLE RICKY] Jack Armstrong continues with his program from Friday night, September 4, 1970, on KTLK in Denver. It's sobering to realize as Jack plays the now-classic Piece Of My Heart that Janis Joplin would die of a heroin overdose one month later. The Denver population must have consisted of lots of hipsters in cowboy hats at the time - note that Dave Mason's Only You Know And I Know was #1 on the KTLK charts (for the fourth week in a row!) though the record only reached #42 on Billboard's national compilation. . . . It's been a business doing pleasure with you . . . [DESCRIPTION BY UNCLE RICKY] Part 3 of this three-part restoration of Jack Armstrong on Denver's KTLK comes with a bad case of green mouth and a suggestion to throw your money up in the air - what goes up is the Lord's, and what comes down belongs to Jack.Again, Jack finds K-TALK's five kilowatts to be worthy of comment, quipping that he's ramming five kilowatts right down your throat, and even incorporating a portion of the station's official sign off announcement into his own sign off, just for the opportunity to call attention to the licensed power. The relatively somber background music makes his sign off here one of the strangest we've heard.
