. . . Gary who? How quickly they forget . . .

[DESCRIPTION BY UNCLE RICKY - CONTRIBUTED BY ROB FRANKEL]

Gary Stevens does a one-hour last show at WMCA, New York, just prior to two years in Switzerland. Just a short time after this aircheck, WMCA's sound had changed significantly under new PD Terrell Metheny.

According to 440 Satisfaction, Stevens' next radio gig was in 1970 as GM of KRIZ in Phoenix. He went on to manage KDWB in Minneapolis, and then became President of Doubleday Broadcasting. Since 1988, Stevens has operated Gary Stevens & Company, selling over three billion dollars in radio properties. Gary Stevens was also well-known to listeners of Swinging Radio England via tape-recorded programs in 1966 and 1967.

In this aircheck, "Uncle Gary" is introduced by Dan Daniel and followed by newcomer Lee Gray. Jay & The Techniques are working overtime, appearing on two spots in this hour for Coca-Cola and H.I.S.. The fidelity of this recording is authentic narrowband 1968 AM, although some songs were masterfully restored by contributor Rob Frankel.
