. . . Dan, that chandelier ain't bolted to the ceiling, you fool! . . . [DESCRIPTION BY UNCLE RICKY] This December, 1974 aircheck was assembled from segments of the 2007 WABC REWOUND program masters. So, it's an edit of an edit, but it is an actual aircheck, and King George Michael alternates between pitchman and part-time philosopher. In my opinion, Michael is one of the most passionate "personality" jocks of the era, always fitting himself to the moment, just as a play-by-play announcer would vary his pitch, cadence and volume to reflect the action of the game. There's only one reference to sports in this aircheck, but you can tell that he really does understand why he's talking about it. It's appropriate that he found much more gainful employment in TV sports programming, but it sounds like he had a lot of fun on the radio. Also included: information on how to change a lightbulb. Yes, Americans are so much smarter now, everyone knows how to Google that. George Michael died from complications of chronic lymphocytic leukemia on December 24, 2009. He was 70.
