INTRODUCTION BY UNCLE RICKY
It's U.S. Election night, November 5, 1968. There were many political contests that year, the most memorable being for U.S. President. President Lyndon Johnson did something very unusual. He decided not to run for re-election, leaving VP/Nominee Hubert Humphrey with a war in Vietnam and anti-war protests in America. Former VP Richard Nixon was the victorious challenger. In 1974, Nixon became the only President to resign his office. It's almost naughty to hear news about this election. We know what happened. WABC was the Number One Music station in the country at the time, but this event afforded the advantage of ABC NEWS . This was Cousin Brucie's time slot, and you'll hear a number of somewhat awkward breaks between "music central" and "news central". There may have been technical issues then, but this archive is extra-crisp today. This exhibit is presented in four parts, corresponding to the original four hours, though the total time is about 23 minutes short. There's a lot of news, but it's likely that not all of the news was recorded. Also, because WABC ran a very tight rotation of mostly current hits during Cousin Brucie's show, a few songs are repeated. | ||
