TOP STREAM 64Kbps (13KHz) Pat St. John, WPLJ-FM NY July 24, 1985 (44:43)
. . . You've got the Power . . . [Description by Uncle Ricky] Power 95 it was, beaten, bruised and humiliated by Z-100 for years before, but here, they are tight, hard-processed and making a comeback. NY Pop Music Vet Pat St. John is featured in PM drive. There are hit songs, of course, but people don't miss these 25-year old songs so much today, in 2010. Yet, it was 25 years ago, and an 18-year-old listening to this station in 1985 is 43 in 2010, in the prime earning demographic. Bruce Springsteen was busting out all over this summer in NYC. Formatically, the aircheck has comfy jingles and sexy promos and starts out strong with an ID of some sort between every song, but it wimps out toward the end, and we don't why. We should have heard Pat somewhere after that awkward jingle seque to the last song. Hey, everyone will know what they're listening to, right? I'm always confused when big programmers on big stations come to the game without identifying their team. But, we can appreciate some exceptional audio production. The last commercial set, with Haagen-Dazs and Molson Beer must be one of the best 2-unit stop sets of the era, and followed by a promo mixed into the music? We're in Top 40 heaven, 1985.
