[Description by Uncle Ricky]

What was most surprising to me about this first hour of the legendary Harry Harrison was that there was so little of Harry Harrison. There's PLENTY of reverb, though, and another two hours to come.

With the advent of 99X, WABC had tightened up - even in morning drive - things had to keep moving. John Meagher offers two excellent newscasts, Harry reads some live spots, there is still a big cash giveaway underway, and we hear some pre-recorded WABC endorsements from young girls, too, ie: WABC is my favorite station.

We'll see if the tighter formatting continues in the two additional parts to come.

[Description by Uncle Ricky]

The push to keep it tighter continues in this second hour of Harry Harrison on WABC. The sound is unmistakable - big, friendly Harry and his casual rumbling, bathed in that deep, deep reverb.

Rod Serling makes a brief appearance for Eisenhower College and spotters are out looking for that $25,000 button.

New York newsman John Meagher presents two newscasts, the first includes Howard Cosell and Speaking Of Sports, and the second is supplemented with ABC Contemporary newsman Joe Templeton.

Instant Coffee Time, right now, on WABC

[Description by Uncle Ricky]

Again, there is even less of Harry Harrison in Part 3 of this aircheck from March 11, 1975. There's plenty of other things, however, often overlapping each other. The most uncomfortable are the jingle "layovers" over intros that step on song vocals and other jingles! But, this was WABC, this was 1975, and this "rushed" approach to their classic format was the answer to the enemy army of FM More Music radio.

There are a couple of Harry coffee jingles, and a couple of coffee sponsors, and WABC is really pushing coffee in the last hour, leading into a few seconds of Hello, Love! Ron Lundy.

Following the closing coffee jingle, New York newsman John Meagher returns with a WABC newscast followed by Don Gardner on the ABC Contemporary Network.
