TOP STREAM 32Kbps (8.5KHz) Earlie Wright, WROX-AM Clarksdale MS March 1984 (15:54) . . . All the teenager's just alike, white and black like the same thing . . . [Description by Uncle Ricky] Earlie Wright on WROX-AM is a composite of several Earlie broadcasts, but most of this exhibit comes from March 1984. Contributor Wayne Scott has previously blessed the Repository with some excellent and exclusive WOR-FM airchecks. I thought it interesting that he would also contribute this unique recording - just about as far away from "The Big Town Sound" as you can get. So, here is something it's getting harder to find every day. It's a local radio personality on a local radio station serving the community to which it is licensed. It's not Top 40, but Earlie does play Stevie Wonder and Rick James. Formatically, it's Personality-based free-form R&B laced with Gospel and Spiritual elements, and LOTS of local content. This is not something you can syndicate, or put on the satellite. But even as late as 1984, with a kilowatt on 1450, it paid the bills.
