. . . [Description by Uncle Ricky] Dan Ingram created theater of the mind radio on Saturday, July 22, 1967, as he welcomed a "Hurn" to the studio. Big Dan's wit and fertile imagination are front and center in this capture of the 4-5PM hour. The sixteen-tentacled "Hurn" sounds a lot like a synthesizer, and was inspired by a jingle at the beginning of the hour. As you'll hear, he only knows one tune — the WABC logo! One of the most enjoyable Big Dan airchecks yet, this one has a respectable stash of memorable classic spots, a grand mix of PAMS jingles and a solid playlist which includes two Pick Hits Of The Week. The only thing edited from the hour were two newscasts. |

. . . [Description by Uncle Ricky] Best intro ever for Jefferson Airbird. We didn't know there was a second hour of this Saturday when we published the first, but here it is! Recorded off the air, not as clean as Hour One and there's some electricity in the ether this afternoon, always a fave for ether fans. AM radio sounded like that, and we didn't mind. One song was trashed, but replaced. This starts about 5 minutes after 5PM and ends about 5 minutes after 6PM. Dan Ingram is back with his "Hurn", and all over most everything - except the ABC News features, of course. Imagine what that would have sounded like - Dan talking back to the newsguy. Pretty common today, but not then! The "Hurn" wants his award on his seventh tentacle, and once again - he only knows one tune — the WABC logo. The spot for Ballatine Beer where Big Dan sings the jingle, solo? Remarkable! Lots of spots, very few records, this was prime WABC makin' lots of money in 1967. |
