TOP STREAM 32Kbps (10KHz) Charlie Murdock, WQAM Miami FL October 22, 1964 (46:17)
. . . if you want to see something more unusual, put a microphone man on a football field . . . [Description by Uncle Ricky] According to this rare studio recording, Charlie Murdock had been top-rated in afternoon drive on WQAM for eight years. That means Charlie went back to the beginnings of WQAM Top 40! This exhibit is courtesy of Michael Fishberg of Harkit Records in Hertfordshire UK. Michael wrote that he worked with WQAM in the '60's and Charlie was a good friend. This exhibit debuted on Sunday, January 9, 2011. Charlie Murdock passed away a week later, on Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Cincinnati. There are a few precious PAMS jingles with the original Wonderful logo included, plenty of MORE-REVERB-ON-DEMAND and a host of rare spots, promotional announcements, drop-ins and gags, including a letter to Lee Sherwood's dog, Sherbet. Frank Poynter delivers a news update, and the vinyl sounds pretty ragged, just the way it was. The big Halloween promotion is underway, involving 56 magic pumpkins. Charlie hosts SportsDesk, spotlighting a local high-school football player. There's also an interesting political advertisement for a Representative who opposed a new program called Medicare, and Flynn's Dixie Ribs was the place to go for that key lime pie. |
