. . . Early to bed, and Early to rise, ain't too good a policy if you're a bartender . . . [Description by Uncle Ricky] At the time Morning Mouth Ben O'Brien sent this "line check" to Tom Konard, WAUG was an AM station on 1050 Khz, simulcasting with their FM station at 105.7 Mhz. Augusta's New Leader played "105 Music", and considering it was 1974, it was a nice blend of mid-charting currents with some not-too-burnt oldies. As is often the case, radio from a smaller market like Augusta had some enjoyable surprises. Ben O'Brien was the air name used by Ben Sandifer during his time as Program Director at WAUG in 1974 and 1975. In 2013, Ben owns GMS Advertising, an advertising agency and production company in Macon, Georgia. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame. WAUG had advertisers that probably always paid on time, including C&S Bank (with spokesman Ted Knight from The Mary Tyler Moore Show) and First Augusta Bank. Also included, two network newscasts. Bob Walker hosts ABC Information News Around The World, and Don Kennedy reports for the Georgia Network. |
